Foot Function in Spring Mass Running
نویسندگان
چکیده
The leg function in human running can be characterized by spring-like behaviour. The human leg itself has several segments, which influence the leg function. In this paper a simple model based on springmass-running but with with a compliant ankle joint is introduced to investigate the influence of a rigid foot segment. The predicted forcelength-curve explains changes in leg stiffness as well as changes in leg length during stance phase similar to what is observed in human running.

Biomechanical Analysis of the Influence of SACH Foot and Dynamic-Response Foot in Individual With Unilateral Transtibial Amputee During Running
Objective: Amputation of the lower limb due to loss of part of the musculoskeletal structure reduces performance and increases injury during locomotion. The effect of various types of prosthetic feet has been analyzed in several studies during running. The purpose of this study was a biomechanical analysis of the influence of SACH and Dynamic-Response foot on several kinetic variables in the st...
متن کاملShoes alter the spring-like function of the human foot during running.
The capacity to store and return energy in legs and feet that behave like springs is crucial to human running economy. Recent comparisons of shod and barefoot running have led to suggestions that modern running shoes may actually impede leg and foot-spring function by reducing the contributions from the leg and foot musculature. Here we examined the effect of running shoes on foot longitudinal ...

A diversity of animals that run on solid, level, flat, non-slip surfaces appear to bounce on 8 their legs; elastic elements in the limbs can store and return energy during each step. The 9 mechanics and energetics of running in natural terrain, particularly on surfaces that can 10 yield and flow under stress, is less understood. The zebra-tailed lizard (Callisaurus 11 draconoides), a small dese...

متن کاملSwing-leg retraction: a simple control model for stable running.
In running, the spring-like axial behavior of stance limbs is a well-known and remarkably general feature. Here we consider how the rotational behavior of limbs affects running stability. It is commonly observed that running animals retract their limbs just prior to ground contact, moving each foot rearward towards the ground. In this study, we employ a conservative spring-mass model to test th...
